One of the things we love about Portland is how it mixes the historical and the modern, the natural and the architectural, in a beautiful, functional blend. In our work as a local house painter, we have the privilege of working in an endless variety of lovely homes! We recently finished working on this home in North Portland, and we would love to show you some of the details.
Built in 1924, this home received a complete remodeling, and we participated in a myriad of ways. Of course, painting was a major part of our work here, including walls, ceilings, trim, baseboards, cabinets, handrails, window frames, a brick fireplace, and more. The details of our work, however, went far beyond this!
Color Matching Stains on Old and New Wood
The most challenging aspect of this project was definitely the woodwork. Adorned with beautiful wood trim and doors throughout the interior, this home has amazing character and charm. The challenge came in the fact that repairs and changes had created a situation where old wood and new wood were paired side-by-side, and the contrast was obvious.
Our task here was to treat the wood in such a way that the old and new would match seamlessly. This required extensive preparatory work, meticulous staining and toning, and then a protective clear coat. As you can see, the work was intensive!
