Sundeleaf’s proven process, begun in 1930 and perfected over three generations, includes:

1) PREPARATION

Before a single brush stroke is ever applied to a surface, our painters fully prepare all surfaces to ensure a fantastic look and a long-lasting coating. Prep isn’t just about laying down a drop cloth and applying some masking tape. The process involves treating the entire space as delicately as possible.

• Inspect – Make a close inspection of the section to be painted. Mark all imperfections for prep requirements including EPA Lead RRP, paint removal, correct primer.
• Set up and protect — Cover all floors and furnishings, and move furniture and equipment to create a clean, safe working environment.
• Scrape — Remove loose paint and drips from existing surface with hand scrapers, then, on exteriors, re-scrape after power washing to ensure a tight, secure substrate.
• Clean/Wash — Wash exterior surfaces to be painted appropriately to the age, material, and condition of the structure. Use mild bleach solution to kill algae/mildew.
• Sand — Feather sand edges where scraping has produced a ridge.
• Prime — Spot prime raw and rusted surfaces using the appropriate primers.
• Glaze and patch — Replace missing and loose window glazing. Fill large holes or voids with appropriate patching compounds. Spackle dents or dings on interior surfaces.
• Prime — Re-prime patched areas to ensure a properly sealed substrate.
• Caulk — Caulk doorframes and windows, or any other locations that moisture can potentially enter and cause damage.

2) PAINT

• Paint — Fully coat surfaces with only top quality products for a superior look and long-lasting, custom painting finish.
• Finish — Keep corners sharp, lines straight, decorative painting meticulously detailed, and faux finishes consistent.
• Clean — Maintain job site cleanliness before, during and after the painting project is complete.

3) COMMUNICATE AND INSPECT

Your personal project manager keeps you updated through every step of your custom painting project. Before wrapping up the project, we will walk you through a full inspection to guarantee everything is exactly as it should be.
