What Happens When You Choose Cheap Paint?

cheap house paint is cheap house paint okay?

Ever wondered how in the world there can be such a huge price difference between paint products? One can is $15, and seems fine, and another is $80… Is there really a difference, or is it only obvious if you’re trying to achieve a super high-end finish?

The truth is, paint quality matters for EVERY project, large or small. Indoors or out. You don’t necessarily need a top shelf brand, but you do need to invest in a product that will really look and perform the way you want it to.

Let’s take a closer look.

3 Problems Caused By Cheap House Paint

It all comes down to the ingredients. The better their quality (and the quality of the process behind your paint formula), the better they’ll perform over time.

Here’s what you risk when you get that bargain brand paint:

  1. Lack of color integrity. Trust us: you don’t want to fall in love with a color, then watch it fade and morph into something unrecognizable. Some surfaces (especially those that face heavy weather exposure) naturally won’t last as long as others, but a better paint will provide better color retention.
  2. Shorter life span. Quality paint lasts longer, every time.
  3. Poor coverage. When numerous coats are needed to achieve proper coverage, especially during a color transition, cheaper paint doesn’t stay cheaper for long. Higher-end paint covers much better, and hides more effectively.
  4. Less durable. Especially in high-traffic places, you need paint that will really stand up to wear and tear (and is washable).

What’s the Takeaway?

If you’re hiring a painting company, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Which products will they use, and why? What does your estimate include? Transparency is key, and an investment in a reputable painter who uses excellent products will pay major dividends every time.
