Stripping and Refinishing a Front Door in Sherwood, Oregon
Posted by Sam Sundeleaf on Tuesday, August 09, 2016
As much as we love well-chosen and applied paint, natural wood offers an aesthetic appeal that can be truly stunning.
What many homeowners don’t realize, or miss the importance of, is the fact that wood needs to be protected and maintained for the longest, most beautiful life possible. UV damage, moisture, insects, and exposure to other elements will cause a natural, but unsightly, breakdown over time. This, in turn, leads to the need for more in-depth repair and replacement.
For a closer look at what the stripping and refinishing process looks like, and what the results can offer, join us for a quick visit to this Sherwood home.
Restoring Beauty and Protection Through Wood Refinishing
As you can see at the beginning of the slideshow above, the finish is all but gone in places, especially on the lower portion of the door. This is common to see! Lower sections get bumped and scuffed more easily and frequently, and are often most exposed to the elements.
The upper portion was actually in good enough condition that we didn’t need to strip it. We instead sanded that very top section, toned, and matched it to the new finish.
Just like exterior painting, surface preparation is key. The glass was meticulously protected, and we then stripped and sanded the wood to not just cover the old, failing finish, but completely replace it with an attractive new product.
If you haven’t already, click to the end of the slideshow! The difference is drastic, with surfaces that boast a rich, warm depth. Equally as important (if not more!), this wood is now fully protected and ready for many more years of use.
