Painting with High Gloss Interior Paint in Your Portland Home

The typical sheens of choice for interior painting are eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss.

Why? Well, they provide a nice balance of the durability of higher-gloss paint combined with the more user-friendly nature of lower-gloss paint. As an added benefit, these sheens tend to be more forgiving of surface imperfections as well, offering an even, smooth coverage.

There is an interior painting trend, however, that calls for a more widespread use of high-gloss paint, finding a home on walls and ceilings in particular. The result is simply gorgeous, providing a deep, almost liquid lustre that reflects light beautifully.

The process, however, requires planning, knowledge, skill, and time. So, before you set forth on your high-gloss interior painting adventure, here’s what you need to know.

Why Is Painting with High-Gloss Products Hard?

As we touched on above, it’s not a forgiving product, requiring a flawless surface for a flawless finish to be possible. This includes:

  • Meticulous repairs (patching or even skim coating)
  • Sanding
  • Multiple coats of primer is sometimes necessary
  • Careful cleaning after sanding to ensure that there is no residue or dust left behind
  • Multiple, thin topcoats

The right, quality application tool is also essential. Brushing is possible but difficult, leaving most painters to roll or spray high-gloss paint into place.

Should You Hire a Professional Painter?

Yes!

There is simply no margin for error; glossy paint makes every blemish or mistake stand out in detail. An experienced professional can take all of the stress out of the equation, providing the right tools and craftsmanship needed to guarantee your incredible finish.
