We all know the feeling. Winter is in full swing, and the drab, cool, monotone tones of winter can leave you cold. So, how can we make this time of year more bearable inside our homes?
Incorporate warm colors on your walls!
What is a warm color?
Before we tell you where to paint, we wanted to give you an overview of what constitutes a warm color. When you look at the color spectrum, warm tones have base tones of reds and yellows.
Which colors are warm?
Although we recognize that reds, oranges and yellows are “warm,”, any color that has an undertone warmth will also react the same way! This can even include blues, greens, and purples.
These beautiful greens, blues and purples can achieve the same effect as a warm terracotta while also adding a layer of fun.
Add a layer of cozy
Keep in mind, warm colors feel like they come closer, or advance. This is why adding a red or yellow tone to a room will give the space a cozy air.
Painting a room with a warm color will give the entire room an air of intimacy, and certain colors can evoke happy emotions. Warm, rich colors are exciting. Add this to a room full of activity – like the family room!
Is there such thing as too much color?
One of the most important things to consider is how much color you will add to your room. Remember, the warmer the color, the more it will “advance” in the room.
If you’ve chosen a bright, bold tones and are afraid it may be too much for four walls, you could try an accent wall. Another option would be to paint two accent walls, facing each other. Both of these options are affordable ways to add a pop of color to your winter walls.
