We recently had the pleasure of painting an elevator at a Mariott hotel here in Portland. When you compare the before and after photos, you can see it was quite an eye-catching transformation!
Product Knowledge and Practical Expertise
At Sundeleaf Painting, one of our unique specialties is in working with wood stains and finishes. In fact, we have one of the only custom spray shops for high-end cabinetry and woodwork in Portland! For this elevator painting project at the Portland Mariott, we had the pleasure of showcasing some of our skills.
Our starting point was a drab, standard oak finish that looked good decades ago, but now makes you feel like you’re stepping into one of grandma’s kitchen cupboards. However, we were able to transform this space into a finely-finished, high-gloss, modern masterpiece!
One of the things we love best about the finished product is the way the mirrors and stainless steel stand out against the black walls and the tile floor. Classy and coordinated!
There are two keys that help us unlock this kind of beauty:
- Product knowledge – We used a combination of pre-cat lacquer (which gives a more durable finish), a dull-rubbed sheen, plus a clear coat with black pigment. The result is a long-lasting, beautifully deep shine.
- Artistry – Knowing the products and being familiar with the application techniques is not enough. It takes a practiced hand and a keen eye to achieve high-end finishes, especially for a highly-visible space like a hotel elevator.
